Sustaining Change: Busting Change Management Myths

As quality professionals, we are often called upon to implement change. Whether it is a design, measure, analyze, improve, control (DMAIC) project or a corporate initiative, we need to understand the dynamics of change to assist in achieving improvement and strategic goals. Sustaining change is elusive. Are we to be guided by common change management myths? For example, it is enough if we have a communication plan or are assigned a change resource; change is soft, i.e., intangible, yet we need tangible results; our leader is charismatic so everyone will follow; etc.? Do we even need to consider change management if the change is small?
