Chair’s Corner, Oct 2015 ASQ 1405 Greater Houston Chapter
“The Changing Face of Quality” is the theme for our Houston Regional Quality Conference coming up in on Nov 13th. Mark your calendars and register early to take advantage of our early bird discounted rates. This will be our 3rd conference in Houston. After the huge success last year with Mayor Parker kicking off our conference with her Keynote address, we are preparing to deliver another premier event. This year we are partnering with Education division and Human resource & Leadership division, making it a 3 day conference followed by a day of workshops. Register today at http://www.asqhouston.org/qecw/
Our section continues to promote Quality within our student membership. We currently have student branches at University of Houston and at Lone Star College – Cypress. Several UH students, who were awarded scholarships from our section, were recognized at the Sept professional dinner meeting.
We are continuing to make strides in promoting the value of certifications in Houston. Education committee recently completed refresher classes for Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence Certification. CQE refresher classes are scheduled to begin soon. Our proctor has been busy in coordinating with our volunteer group to administer this and other certification exams here in Houston on Oct 3rd. In addition, our recertification chair has successfully assisted in evaluating over 60 recertification applications from our members this year.
If you are interested in getting involved with our section activities, we have a long list of event offerings for you. I have listed many of them below. As always, we are looking for volunteers like you to help us achieve our goals. Please contact me for details and for additional information at Chair@asqhouston.org

I cannot end a newsletter for October without mentioning pumpkins. October is the uncontested best time to get a pumpkin, especially if you plan on carving it for Halloween or try my fav - pumpkin spiced latte. Here is an interesting article about 5 foods that taste better in October than they will all year. http://time.com/4055684/fruit-vegetables-in-season/
