August, our hottest month, is here and I sure am feeling it. This year it’s not just the sun, but your Section Leadership Team (SLT) is also ‘bringing the heat’ with multiple activities being planned in the areas of community outreach, education programs and professional meetings.

Let me begin with the 2016 Houston Regional conference. “QUALITY MAKES $EN$E” is the conference theme and the scheduled date is Friday, October 28th. Quality professionals are increasingly playing a larger role in driving profits in many companies and we are no longer limited to just conducting audits or creating procedures. Cost of Quality is now a key metric at most companies and you will see this connection between Quality and dollars ($) highlighted at this years’ conference. Do mark your calendars and register early to take advantage of the early bird discounts. I request all of you to spread the word and encourage your friends and colleagues to register today at

We have renewed our focus on serving our community by offering a variety of volunteer events. Derica and her teams have been very busy this summer with participating in 3 community outreach events. The team volunteered for the Houston Food Bank on June 11th to prepare meals for those in need. This was followed by volunteering to assist with preparing, serving and cleaning up after lunch with the Star of Hope on July 9th. Then on July 27th the team partnered with Genesys Works to facilitate mock interviews for students involved in their summer training program. A big Thank you! to all those who participated in these events.

If you are interested in getting involved with our section activities, we have a long list of event offerings for you. I have listed many of them below. As always, we are looking for volunteers like you to help us achieve our goals. Please contact me for details and for additional information at
