Keynote Speaker: Mahindra Nath Varma

Presentation: What does it take to be a Quality Professional

A Quality Management System encompasses the organizational structure, responsibilities, processes, procedures and policies, and resources for implementing a quality plan in a company. Quality control and quality assurance are subsets of the quality management functions which determine and implement quality policies and quality objectives of the company. It is, therefore, imperative to implement, manage and monitor activities within the Quality Management System, closely, to ensure that high-quality products and services are provided that meet and exceed customer needs and expectations. This is where Quality Professionals step in. So, what does it take to become a Quality Professional? This presentation will attempt to discuss the education and certification requirements, and roles of a Quality Professional.

Pre-Dinner Speaker (Tutorial 1) Main Room: Wali Alam

Presentation: The New ISO 9001:2015

Perhaps the biggest change ever in Quality Management Systems is finally here. The Final Draft International Standard (ISO 9001:2015) was released on July 09. Contrary to many who thought that the standard has been watered down, and requirements reduced, careful reading will show that quite the opposite has occurred. There have been no reductions. In fact, there have been substantial additions. These are not just feel-good cerebral exercises—they come with teeth, and can bite.

ASQ Houston has organized a series of discussion forums facilitated by Wali Alam to help interpret, implement and audit the new requirements. The first forum on August 13 will be a “30,000 ft.” view of the standard along these 3 criteria. Subsequent forums will take a deep dive into the different parts of the standard, one by one, until the complete standard is covered. Wali Alam will open up the session with a summary of research on the topic, and then invite attendees to engage in discussions. We plan to get this series completed around the end of the year, which would be about the time when most people will be getting ready to plan for implementing the new standard.

Results of the discussions will be recorded and posted on the ASQ 1405 web-site for all to see, and participate in.
