ASQ Houston UH Student Branch & Section Joint Online Professional Development Meeting - April 2017

Recertification units (RUs) will be provided for participating in this meeting.

Speaker: Ms. Crystal Davis

Topic: LEADing Lean

Often organizations make lean a program focused on cost cutting, doing kaizen events, and going crazy with 5S taping, labeling and auditing. People find themselves busy doing lean, instead of being lean.

This presentation will challenge the concept of lean leadership verses leading lean. Many articles, whitepapers, etc., when referencing why lean implementations fail, mention a lack of lean leadership. While I agree in principle that lean leadership is important. I have a different perspective on what we should be asking leader to do, learn, and become. The difference is in approach. I have seen the best of leaders that really wanted to have successful implementations struggle to understand what they should be doing. They are told to go to the gemba, participate in kaizen, and audit the 5S program. I believe the power in being and leading lean is coaching leaders on matters such as: how to inspire and motivate new behaviors, to understand the potential impact to the business and the bottom line, to develop their supervisors, managers and team leads, and much more. Join us for this presentation to hear insights and examples from The Lean Coach, Inc.
