Presentation: Making the Invisible Visible – The Secret of Process Improvement

Click here for presentation: Making the Invisible Visible Presentation

Description: Process improvement efforts within organizations are typically collaborative in nature. Practitioners working in such roles often spend time in teams learning about other people’s work processes, identifying what they value, and learning to speak their language. The secret to this work is how the tools and methods of process improvement make the invisible visible. For example, process mapping tools help us view our work more clearly as a step-by-step process or routine; root cause analysis methods facilitate the identification of the underlying issues associated with a problem; and, process monitoring and control mechanisms cultivate valuable feedback that leads to further process improvements.

Presentation: Standardizing the Patient Visit Process – A Lean Six Sigma Case Study in Healthcare (Main Room I/J/K)

Description: For non-profit organizations, it is essential to optimize process efficiency and use resources effectively. Christ Clinic is a non-profit health provider that serves uninsured, low income adults in Katy, Texas. This research utilized the Lean Six Sigma methodology to standardize Christ Clinic’s patient visit process to reduce the variation of patient visit cycle time. The project utilized the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach to map the current process, collect and analyze data, and identify the root causes of variation in the process. Then, solution ideas were developed, changes to the process were implemented, and a control plan was developed to sustain the gains achieved.
