How to apply Project Management and Agile tools and techniques to Lean and Quality project across industries.
The job market has historically favored individuals who focused on single fields for entire careers. In the last few years, there has been ever increasing pressure on businesses to improve their bottom lines with fewer employees. This has resulted in the rise of cross-trained multi-purpose employees who perform a variety of functions and tasks once reserved for career specialist.
As companies are streamlined, traditional silos are torn down. Quality leaders are now frequently asked to execute projects in a broad range of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, transportation, oil & gas and banking.
In this new competitive space, customers expect short term engagements and immediate results. As Quality leaders, we must discover how to repurpose Agile project management tools and transform ourselves into Innovative Facilitators and Change Agents who thrive in the modern workplace.
The goal of this session is to highlight how AGILE and Waterfall Project Management concepts can be:
- leveraged to lead Continuous Improvement and Innovation Initiatives
- adapted and applied to lean, quality and Innovation projects across a variety of industries
Pre-Dinner Tutorial 1 Speaker: Arron Angle
Presentation: Is Your BBQ© Working
- Identify the constituents of a Behavior Based Quality (BBQ) culture.
- Identify why they are important to achieve sustainable results of financial improvement that impact a company’s bottom line.
- Show how to achieve a culture of BBQ even when the upper tier of management may not be fully engaged in a cultural referendum.
First, I’m not talking about what you cook on. I’m talking about Behavior Based Quality (BBQ). Part of the challenge of Behavior Based Quality is that this is so far from the way people think in a work environment that they often just don’t get it. Let’s take a different approach and consider the issue from a different perspective. What about Quality of life? We think of the Quality of our food, drinking water, air, service, entertainment and just about every aspect of our life that directly affects us. Most of us take actions to improve poor Quality in our non-work environment. Why not at work? Perhaps you don’t feel empowered to make changes. Perhaps you tried but didn’t get the results or support you were hoping for. That’s a sign that the BBQ is not working. A culture of behavior based Quality is led from the top and cascaded down into the organization so that every employee understands the cultural imperative and participates equally.
