Keynote Dinner Topic: “Project Quality Management in the Oil and Gas industry – Challenges and Opportunities”

Description: Will be a discussion of considerations of best practises with regard to Project Quality Management, Quality Assurance, Quality Assurance and Quality Control from a Operators standpoint.

The presentation will also cover the challenges inherent in the industry to deliver world class quality on projects (particularly the evolving area of “mega” projects) and also opportunities for quality professionals to make a real difference as Project Quality Managers in the future.

Pre-dinner Topic: Systems Engineering in Healthcare at University of Texas – progress to date

 The University of Texas (UT) has six health institutions (including MD Anderson Cancer Center) and Industrial and Systems Engineering faculty throughout university locations such as Engineering and Business schools at UT-Austin, UT-Dallas, UT-San Antonio, and UT-Arlington. These health institutions and academic institutions (along with the UT Medical School) are partnering to implement Systems Engineering in healthcare throughout the UT System. The "systems approach to implementing Systems Engineering" is an opportunity to serve as a world-class model for collaboration across academic and healthcare institutions to implement Systems Engineering and systems thinking in healthcare. By synthesizing the efforts of the UT components, this initiative results in reduced costs, reduced wait times, safer processes, and more efficient and effective care. Systems Engineering includes front-line tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA as well as more traditional Industrial Engineering disciplines such as Operations Research including scheduling, simulation, and heuristics; Human Factors; Applied Statistics; and Facility Design Layout.

As Always, our monthly professional development dinner meetings are open to the public. There is no requirement to be an ASQ member to purchase a meal to attend. Online registration closes on Tuesday at 11:45am. If you choose to purchase a meal at the event, the price will be $25 and food choices may be limited.

Leo has extensive experience at all levels of quality assurance/management from the development, implementation and maintenance of Corporate and Project Quality Systems; to the management of supplier quality assurance and co-ordination of supplier quality control activities and construction site quality surveillance and is a B.Eng. (Hones) in Mechanical Engineering and also holds ISO 9001 and 14001 Lead Auditor qualifications.

Dr. Victoria Jordan specializes in systems management, applied statistics and quality improvement. As the Executive Director of Strategic Management and Systems Engineering at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, she currently leads Quality/Systems Engineering, Strategic Planning and Management, and Clinical Informatics within the Office of Performance Improvement.  Quality/Systems Engineering provides expertise to the organization in process and system improvement by applying quality tools and methodologies that support safety, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and patient-centeredness.  Through Clinical Informatics, her area provides accurate and timely process and outcomes data (internal and comparative) to process owners in support of the needs of the EVP of Clinical Operations, the EVP of Research, and Division Heads. In her Strategic Planning and Management role, Dr. Jordan facilitates the development and implementation of the institution’s strategic plan with the Executive Committee.
