Who We Are The Sponsorship Committee of the Greater Houston Section of ASQ is the newest organizational addition to the section. Voice of the Customer

The purpose of the Voice of the Customer committee is to promote member unit and society research opportunities, participate in questionnaire development and conduct analysis which will provide useful and applicable information to the Section and the Society.

Our objectives to achieve our purpose include:

Reviewing ASQ Section Member Satisfaction Surveys
Reviewing ASQ's Voice of the Customer Summary Reports
Aligning VOC activities with the ASQ HQ's President's Race to Retain.
Working with Section SLT to set goals/metrics to support the business plan as it relates to VOC data collection and analysis.
Working with SLT to collect and utilize VOC data to recommend appropriate programs and services.
Working with the Communications Committee in an effort to ensure all members are contacted using their preferred method, if possible.

Our goals include:

Conducting member surveys at each Professional Development meeting, asking specific, targeted questions for "honest" responses.
Conducting annual membership survey using ASQ HQ's Qualtrics
Developing incentive plan for members who respond to surveys
Making recommendations [from survey results] for and working with the respective SLT Chairs
Reviewing the current monthly communication efforts to ensure all members are being reached.

These goals and objectives should provide the Section wtih a baseline to ensure the successful hand-off to the next VOC Chair's for the 2011 year.

Upcoming Community Outreach Events

As part of our expanded Community Outreach Program, Local Section 1405 is proud to offer its membership the opportunity to participate in Rock The Cure, 2010 Walk to Cure Diabetes. The ASQ team is planning to participate in this worthwhile event on Saturday, November 6 at Reliant Park to build diabetes awareness, raise money to fund research, and help find a cure for diabetes and its many serious complications. Check-in begins at 7:30 AM and the 5K walk itself commences at 9 AM. Last year's walk raised over $1.6 million for this cause. Even if participating in the walk is not feasible, there are many other volunteer opportunities available such as greeting participants, passing out T-shirts, handing out food and water to the walkers, taking monetary donations, and just have a great Saturday with other ASQ Section 1405 members in supporting a worthwhile cause. What is Spotlight on a Member?

Each month, the ASQ 1405 Membership Committee will select a member to feature in the monthly "Spotlight on a Member" article for the monthly newsletter. The selected member will be asked questions about his/her professional journey through quality and also get to volunteer some interesting facts about themselves. This feature is just one more way for the membership to get to know one another.

Fundamental Principles

ASQ requires its members and certification holders to conduct themselves ethically by:

Being honest and impartial in serving the public, their employers, customers, and clients.
Striving to increase the competence and prestige of the quality profession, and
Using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare.

Members and certification holders are required to observe the tenets set forth below:

Relations With the Public

Article 1 – Hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public in the performance of their professional duties.

Relations With Employers and Clients

Article 2 – Perform services only in their areas of competence.

Article 3 – Continue their professional development throughout their careers and provide opportunities for the professional and ethical development of others.

Article 4 – Act in a professional manner in dealings with ASQ staff and each employer, customer or client.

Article 5 – Act as faithful agents or trustees and avoid conflict of interest and the appearance of conflicts of interest.

Relations With Peers

Chair Position

The chair serves as the chief executive officer of the section. This position oversees all aspects of section management and leads all member leaders. The chair serves as the primary contact for all regional director and headquarters communications.

Duties

Specific duties include:

Preside over all section leadership committee (SLT) and member meetings.
Appoint all standing and additional committee chairs.
Work with SLT to set goals/metrics to support the section management process (SMP).
Along with SLT, develop section business plan and budget, including SLT and general membership meetings schedules.
Uphold society bylaws, policies and procedures, and section operating agreement.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position include:

Must be a Full, Senior, or Fellow member in good standing affiliated with the section.
Must have basic knowledge of society bylaws, policies, and procedures, and section operations.
Must be willing to provide contact information for Society and section business purposes.
Must be willing to provide e-mail address to headquarters for communication.
Must possess leadership, management and organizational skills.

Commitment

This position’s time commitment is approximately eight to ten hours per month (outside of section and executive committee meetings).

Secretary

The secretary documents section business and maintain records of the section and serve as the official correspondent of the section.

Duties

Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

•   Work with Section Leadership Committee (SLC) to set goals/metrics to support the Section's management process as they relate to the documentation of section records and correspondence.
•   Record all SLC meetings. Maintain careful and authentic record of the proceedings of all business meetings of the section.
•   At each meeting, read the minutes of the previous meeting for approval.
•   Have available, at any meeting, copies of past minutes, Section Operating Agreement (SOA), and parliamentary reference (Robert’s Rules of Order).
•   Serve as primary correspondent for the section.
•   Uphold Society Bylaws, Policies and Procedures, and SOA.

Qualifications

•   Must be a Regular, Senior, or Fellow Member in good standing affiliated with the section.
•   Preferably will have been a participant in section committee activities.
•   Preferably will have strong writing and word processing skills.
•   Must be willing to provide email address to headquarters for communication.

Time Commitment

Approximately 3 – 4 hours per month (outside of section and executive committee meetings).

Chair-Elect Position

Chair-elect is an elected position of the section leadership team. Chair-elect transitions into the position of section chair into the following section year. Chair-elect is primarily responsible for Quality Management Process (QMP) which lays the foundation for section’s operations and budget. QMP is the process for planning and implementation of services and programs to meet the needs of our section’s current and future members. It is simply a management process that emphasizes the importance of:

Assessing member needs and expectations.
Developing an annual business plan and operating budget.
Measuring the Member Units performance.
Combining the Society’s goals of increased member satisfaction, loyalty, and retention with the Member unit’s own goals, QMP encourages Member Units to continually measure, address, and improve customer satisfaction by incremental improvement. QMP also recognizes Member Units for performance (based on results) through two awards:
Quality Excellence Award
Total Quality Award

The requirements for receiving recognition include meeting the Member Unit minimum requirements, developing and implementing a Member Unit annual business plan, operating budget, meeting all the QMP deadlines, and showing improvement on specific measures.

Certification Refresher Courses

The Greater Houston Section 1405 is pleased to sponsor ASQ certification refresher courses for Certified Quality Auditor, Six Sigma Green Belt, Calibration Technician, Quality Engineer, Quality Improvement Associate, Software Quality Engineer, and Quality Process Analyst. The classes are scheduled to end at least one week before the examination is administered by ASQ. The classes will be held at University of Houston – Main Campus.
