Tutorial:
Learning and Knowledge Creation in Continuous Improvement Efforts – A Pilot Study
Abstract: Beginning in January 2012, the University of Houston will conduct a quality-related research project. This tutorial will discuss the purpose of this study, how ASQ Houston’s membership can participate, and the practical aspects of the theory this study is based on. This research will investigate the effect of continuous improvement practices on organizational performance and the role that knowledge plays in the relationship between continuous improvement practices and performance. This study is unique and innovative because it will consider continuous improvement practices in terms of learning behaviors (i.e., information seeking, discussions, and asking questions). As part of this project, ASQ Houston’s membership will be asked to participate in this survey, which will focus on practitioners’ use of continuous improvement practices and their knowledge obtained as a result of participating in continuous improvement activities, as well as related changes in performance within their organizations. Data collected through this study will be evaluated by researchers from the University of Houston. The results of this research will further our understanding of quality improvement principles/practices and help raise the voice of quality within our community.
