Our section mission statement directs our membership to get involved in advancing quality improvement and knowledge exchange concepts throughout the Greater Houston area. The programs that the Outreach Committee considers are selected to support this mission.
In terms of knowledge exchange, one of the programs with which our section has been involved over the past 20 years is the
Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH), where middle and high school students showcase their scientific research to the community. Our section involvement includes spicing funds, sponsorship of the fair, judging the projects, and presenting scholarships and other awards to a number of outstanding students. We intend to continue with this worthwhile endeavor.
Another program which is supported by the efforts of our local membership and dedicated volunteers is the
ASQ certification exams that are held 4 times a year. Our section involvement includes identifying the proper exam site and proctoring of these exams.
The outreach program has also started to get our section membership involved in programs such as the
March of Dimes and the
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Research. We believe by supporting these, and similar initiatives, our section can play a role in the success of these programs in achieving their objectives which improve the quality of life for many individuals and families.
We would like to expand the scope of the Outreach Committee activities. We welcome any ideas and suggestion to reach this objective. The ability to support these worthwhile organizations and activities comes from the time and effort donated by our volunteers. New volunteers are always needed and welcome.
